What is Media Technology:
In the context that we are using today the term media technology is any means used to relay a message. This can be accomplished through media forms like music, movies, television, books, magazines, or even blog sites. Now that we understand what this media technology is let's take a look at some.
Media Tech #1:
Stats:
In 1873 the first commercially successful typewriter, and the first with a QWERTY keyboard. Before this there were many types of typewriters that looked nothing like the QWERTY keyboard typewriters. Here are a few pictures of what it use to look like.

This media technology in my day allowed us to write papers and letters in a professional manner. With the invention of this media technology people who had horrible hand writing now had a way to communicate with other in a way that was legible to literate people. Now the only down fall of this device to me was the fact that when it first came out there was no way to correct any mistakes without having to start over. I know there were quite a few times when I wrote a paper where I made it close to the end and made a mistake. I had to redo the whole thing. Thank God that this is not the case today. I made quite a few mistakes just typing this. Now that we have gone back in the day let's remain there for a few.
Media Tech #2:
I sit here writing this blog as I am currently listening to my music through my computer. In today's society I can get just about any song instantly, all I need is to have the funds to purchase it and an internet connection to download it. Back in the days (before my time), in order to hear a song that you wanted to hear you had to listen to the radio to until it played what you wanted it to.
Back in the days before televisions this use to be the media technology that people used to get all of their home entertainment. This country would gather around this little media technology to get the news, music, advertisements, and audio shows. The beauty of this time was that you had to use your imagination to view what was being related. Don't get me wrong I do not want to have to ever have to go back to times like that, but I do think that it must have been cool to have to image your shows, rather then to be shown your shows. So far I have talked about two old school technologies, now lets take a look at a few from this millennium.
Media Tech #3:
In the above mentioned media technology people had to use a radio to get their music, news, advertisements, and audio shows. Well since those times we have evolved to take all of those forms of media and improve upon them. Instead of having to wait for your music, news, or show to come to you at the appointed time and day. Now we can access all of that when ever we want to. Now that we have the internet we can not only access it but we can save it so that we can access it whenever or where ever we want to.
Now I know what you are thinking I-tunes is not the originator, and you are correct. I-Tunes is just a knock off of NAPSTER, but I-Tunes has been the most profitable so history will say that I-Tunes is what changed the media technology landscape when it comes to music, movie, TV, books, news, and games. With this technology we do not have to wait to get any type of media that already exist. In this instant gratification society this media technology has become a necessity for every household in America. Now although this is something that we can save and make portable, it still doesn't have the instant push to your device. This country is obsessed with thing instantly. It is because of this that we have come up with the next media technology.
Media Tech #4:
Imagine if you will walking down the street and you find out that your sister/brother just had a child, and you wanted to see them. Now you could have them take a picture and send it to your phone and then you could look at the child that way, but this means that you have to make an effort to reach into your pocket or purse to pull out your phone. God forbid that your left the phone at home, then you will have to wait until your get home to see your little niece or nephew. NOOOOOO that is unthinkable. Why don't they make something that beams the information to your head (sadly some people want that). Well this is possible today. This media technology does not send the information straight to your brain, it just send it to these.
Google glasses. Now these glasses can receive instant messages that will display the information to the lens. You will be able to read papers, see picture, see information about an area that you are in, or even see video through these glasses. We use to have to do the work to find the information, here in the near future we will be able to speak the information that we want an the information will appear in front of us. From having to write without making mistakes to just telling our media technology what we want and having it fetch it for us, we are changing with the landscape of our media technologies. Is it for the better or worst? No matter what your answer is everyone can agree media technology has become so much more convenient then it was thirty years ago. What will it be thirty years from now.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteYour front page is very inviting. I like how when you click on a Blog you want to read it moves it across and then opens it up. I like the media blog the best. The layout is very simple and easy to follow. The added pictures are great. Your audience is of course all of us in this class but also anyone who wants to read about media that was of an interest to you.
Maybe the only thing I would change is some background color. Great job!
Thanks for the advice classmate will do.
